چکیده

Correspondence analysis is required for many applications such as multimedia communication and 3-D tele-presence. Current intensity-based approaches model intensity differences of corresponding points in the leftand right-eye images with Gaussian distribution. In this contribution, the statistical characteristics of intensity differences of corresponding points were studied using natural stereo images. The examination reveals that a Laplacian distribution outperforms a Gaussian distribution. Based on this result, a new approach for correspondence analysis is proposed, which exploits Laplacian distribution to model intensity differences of corresponding points. To measure the performance of different approaches, a measure related to the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of disparity-compensated prediction over the matching ratio was introduced. The experimental results show that the proposed correspondence algorithm has a better performance than other existing approaches. It also shows that the PSNR of disparity-compensated prediction decreases as the matching ratio goes up.

Stereo Rectification of Un-calibrated and Heterogeneous Image-Pairs

In this paper, an algorithm to rectify a pair of heterogeneous images is presented. In particular, the pair of images is captured by using different sensors like static and dynamic cameras thus having different focal lengths and/or image resolutions. This combination of cameras is used as a binocular vision system. The pairs of images are made homogeneous based on the focal ratio of the two cam...

Distance Determination from Pairs of Images from Low Cost Cameras

This thesis presents an implementation of a stereo vision system, using image processing techniques to determine depth information from pairs of stereo images. This system, which aims to aid vehicle reversal, involves working with stereo images of different vehicles, and the distance between the stereo cameras and the target vehicle is determined. For a pair of stereo images, the system algorit...

A Higher Order MRF-Model for Stereo-Reconstruction

We consider the task of stereo-reconstruction under the following fairly broad assumptions. A single and continuously shaped object is captured by two uncalibrated cameras. It is assumed, that almost all surface points are binocular visible. We propose a statistical model which represents the surface as a triangular (hexagonal) mesh of pairs of corresponding points. We introduce an iterative sc...

A statistical approach to sparse multi-scale phase-based stereo

In this study, a multi-scale phase based sparse disparity algorithm and a probabilistic model for matching uncertain phase are proposed. The features used are oriented edges extracted using steerable filters. Feature correspondences are estimated using phase-similarity at multiple scale using a magnitude weighting scheme. In order to achieve sub-pixel accuracy in disparity, we use a fine tuning...
